Course Overview

Build your future in construction with our Site Carpentry Skills Boot Camp.

Created in response to demand from local and regional employers, this course equips you with the essential site carpentry skills required to work within the housebuilding and construction industries.

You'll develop practical, industry-relevant skills in a supportive workshop environment while working towards the standards employers are looking for. With ongoing skills shortages across the sector, qualified site carpenters are highly sought after, making this an excellent opportunity to enhance your employability.

Whether you're looking to start a new career, formalise existing skills, or progress from our Carpentry Essentials course, this programme can help you take the next step towards employment or an apprenticeship in construction

Qualification Gained

Level 2 Award in Skills for Employment in Construction Industries

After The Course

Once you’ve completed this course you could progress into a Site Carpentry Apprenticeship, or onto a full Diploma in Site Carpentry or Architectural Joinery. You could also join the construction industry in a labouring/ support capacity.

What Will I Learn

The course will begin by focusing on keeping you safe in construction. This is important as the industry is dangerous, so ensuring you are able to work safely and assess the risks around you is key.

Once this module is complete you'll work on a series of site carpentry based tasks including aspects like first and second fix, structural framing and roofing, as well as finishing carpentry.

You'll learn to use industry relevant tools safely and efficiently.

Towards the end of the course, you'll complete some work ready assessments and interviews to provide you with the best opportunity to move into the industry.

English And Maths

You will need to have completed both English and maths qualifications at a Grade 4 or equivalent to be eligible for this course. Check out our adult skills courses if you need either of these qualifications.

Our Lecturers

David Little is a versatile carpentry expert, from building complicated and impressive arena stages for the likes of Boomtown and Glastonbury festival, to creating bespoke arched doors, David has years of industry and teaching experience to help everyone from the novice to the expert.

Stephen Caunter is our go-to when it comes to working with timber. There’s very little he can’t turn his hand to, and the projects he creates are inspiring. Stephen learned his craft through shop fitting, before broadening his skills and eventually settling in teaching where he regularly enables learners to unlock new skills they never knew they had.

Teaching Learning and Assessment

The course will be assessed through a mix of practical and written assessments.

You will complete a portfolio of evidence which demonstrates your knowledge, skills and behaviours. This could include written job reports, completion of standard documentation (such as risk assessments) or answering written questions.

Your assessor will also judge your practical work against industry tolerances, providing valuable feedback to help you develop your practice.

Tutorials

There are no planned tutorials on this course, however your lecturer is available to answer questions as you progress and will signpost to wider support services if this is required.
